about

Baby Robots
Florida Boy On Taylor Rd.
Catland Rekkids #10

The remarkable thing about the Baby Robots is that they manage to produce something very transcendent, nuanced and complicated from a fairly limited palette of sounds and colors - deliberately, methinks, always washed in the salmon-colored hue of the Florida coastal landscape from whence they emerged. Though the Robots have always included founder Lakitu the Baby Robot, Bobby Baker (also a member of ST 37, Rubble, the Sex Organs of Emittance, etc.) and almost always have contained multi-instrumentalist Matt Cohen (Whirlaway, Cymbals Eat Guitars, etc.), for this project, a wonderful new LP entitled “Florida Boy On Taylor Rd.”, they have achieved new heights of audio clarity and superb musicianship with guest spots and engineering duties from James Alexander (My Education, Ultrasound) and JD Fanning (Oh, Beast!, Zulu As Kono). These two miscreants join the usual Robots crew of Chrises Laurel and Hackstie and bassist Dave Norwood, all 3 of which are veterans of too many bands to list here. You’ll be captivated from the first track, “Lose You”, with its insanely catchy keyboard riff, and by Robots standards “Florida Boy” and “Flopper”, as well as all the newer material. As any Pink Floyd fan will immediately recognize, the limited edition LP itself is packaged in an incredibly faithful homage to Syd Barrett’s second release “Barrett”, lovingly recreated by Fanning and Baker. Your inner madcap will soon be laughing when you hear the joyous sounds contained within this stellar new record.
